April 15, 2008  A Girl’s Best Friend  -Canceled-

In a disappointing announcement, Kenny Krell from 3 Disciplines racing is letting me know that the “Girls Best Friend” event is now canceled.  The short story is that 3 Disciplines took over what was originally planned for the “Tribute...” race at the Diamond Lake venue from Colleen Kielton sight unseen.  3D also changed the date and set up the new event for women only.  Upon first hand review of the venue however, 3D determined the site to be too small to handle even a nominal first year turnout, let alone the expected growth of the event in the following years.

April 7, 2008   A Girl’s Best Friend and some other race notes

More changes for the race picture for this year.  But considering how late we are now...these may be the last big ones. The "Tribute..." event set for Memorial Day in Cassopolis is now canceled by Colleen Kielton and her "Get It Goin' On" organization.

3 Disciplines is taking over Colleen's Father's Day race in Elkhart, IN.  This will be the 2nd year for the event and I heard mostly positive comments about the venue and all from last year.

So what's this "A Girl's Best Friend" all about?  A brand new women's only Tri/DU at Diamond Lake in Cassopolis.  "Diamond...", girl's best friend...get it?  Race date is Saturday, June 28th, and the event features both Intermediate and Sprint distance tris, and a short course DU. So now between Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ohio...there are a good half dozen women's only events for 2008.

This year's Seahorse, on Sunday, June 1st, will go back to using the original bike course from the Coldbrook Park venue.  Last year the bike was cut short due to construction on 38th. That work involved straightening out the "S" curve to some degree on 38th and removing a number of trees along the road.  It is now an almost dangerously fast descent due to the length of that decline. Strap in, tuck it in tight, and let 'er rip. Leathers are optional.
